Nestled in the heart of Champaign County, Hemisphere Coffee Roasters is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee—it’s a movement dedicated to changing lives. With every bean they roast, they’re not only delivering exceptional coffee but also transforming communities around the world.

A Mission Rooted in Justice
For over 25 million families worldwide, coffee isn’t just a beverage; it’s a livelihood. However, many coffee growers and pickers are among the world’s most impoverished workers, while their products are enjoyed in some of the wealthiest establishments. Hemisphere Coffee Roasters was founded to bridge this gap.
The journey began over two decades ago with Paul Kurtz, a man whose passion for justice and quality coffee has shaped the very foundation of Hemisphere Coffee Roasters. Paul’s background as a Global Mission Director took him around the world, where he witnessed firsthand the exploitation rampant in the coffee industry. The disparity he saw between struggling coffee farmers and the luxurious cafés where their beans were sold deeply impacted him. Determined to make a difference, he started roasting coffee, learning the craft from the ground up and developing an expertise that would eventually allow him to source high-quality, ethically produced coffee from farmers in Nicaragua, Thailand, Ethiopia, and beyond.

Paul’s vision was not just about great coffee—it was about creating sustainable change. By forging direct relationships with farmers and paying them fair wages, he sought to lift entire communities out of poverty. His work has since transformed Hemisphere Coffee Roasters into a company that not only serves excellent coffee but also serves as a conduit of blessing for farmers and their families worldwide.

Direct Trade, Real Impact
What sets Hemisphere Coffee Roasters apart is their commitment to direct trade. Unlike traditional supply chains, which often involve multiple middlemen, Hemisphere purchases coffee directly from farmers, paying them two to three times what they would typically earn. This not only ensures fair compensation but also reinvests in communities, fostering economic and social development.

Through direct purchases facilitated by Mechanicsburg’s Park National Bank, Hemisphere Coffee Roasters is pioneering a new model in the industry. Farmers are empowered, operations are improved, and entire regions benefit from the increased income.

A Tour of Taste and Tradition
Visitors to Hemisphere Coffee Roasters are in for a treat—not just for the taste buds but for the mind as well. This working roastery offers immersive tours that take guests through the journey of coffee from farm to cup. You’ll learn about the nuances of different coffee-growing regions, taste exceptional brews, and gain insight into your personal coffee preferences.

For those eager to explore the world through coffee, a flight of three coffees allows you to experience fruity, floral, nutty, light, and dark roasts all in one sitting. Whether you’re a seasoned coffee connoisseur or just beginning your journey, there’s always something new to discover.

Using a 60-pound drum roaster with cutting-edge infrared technology, Hemisphere Coffee Roasters crafts smooth, sweet, and clean-tasting coffee. With over 5,000 pounds roasted and shipped weekly, their dedication to freshness is unmatched. Coffee is roasted to order daily, ensuring every bag and every cup is as fresh as possible.

Signature blends like Burg Blend, Day Dream Blend, and Honey Espresso have become local favorites. Their popular Christmas Blend delights customers annually, while the Honey Espresso is a standout for cold brew lovers—especially when served on Nitro.

More Than Coffee: A Community Partner
Hemisphere Coffee Roasters isn’t just about selling coffee; they’re deeply invested in Champaign County. They actively support local high school music and drama programs, cancer research, and law enforcement initiatives. Their coffee can be found in some of the best local spots, including Mixx 165,
