Chamber Night at the Races Celebrates 32 Years of Fair Week Tradition—Nowon Monday Night!

A cornerstone of Champaign County Fair week is back for its 32nd year: Chamber Night at the Races, hosted by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce. This signature event will take place on a new night--Monday, August 4, 2025, marking a shift from its traditional Tuesday slot while continuing to deliver all the excitement, giveaways, and community spirit fairgoers know and love.

Since its inception over three decades ago, Chamber Night at the Races has grown into the busiest night of horse racing at the fair, featuring live harness racing, a packed grandstand, and a night-long series of prize raffles generously sponsored by local Chamber members. 

What started with television giveaways has evolved into a tech-lovers’ dream: recent years have featured prizes such as Ring doorbells, iPads, Kindles, Apple Watches, and more. Each prize sponsor is acknowledged during the event with a live narrative read over the grandstand speaker system and featured in a live broadcast by the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, giving businesses a powerful spotlight before a captive audience. 

“We’ve built something really special here,” said Randy Leopard, Champaign County Fair Board member and long-time partner in the event. “Many other fairs have tried to replicate Chamber Night at the Races, but none have matched the success and energy we’ve created in Champaign County. The partnership between the Chamber and Fair Board is truly unique—and it shows.” 

Sara Neer, Executive Director of the Chamber, echoed the sentiment: 
“This event is the perfect example of what happens when community and business come together. It’s festive, it’s fun, and it gives our members an incredible opportunity to engage with the public.” 

Prize drawings take place between races, and all fair attendees are eligible to win. Chamber members interested in sponsoring a prize can still sign up—just contact the Chamber office. 

NOTE: The Chamber office will be closed fair week (Aug 4–10), but Chamber staff will be active at the fairgrounds and available to meet with members or respond via email.
