In the heart of Mechanicsburg, just off the beaten path, there’s a cozy little spot where the coffee is strong, the portions are generous, and the welcome is warm. It’s called Mixin’s and Fixin’s Country Diner, and it’s the kind of place where regulars are greeted by name, and newcomers are treated like old friends. Step inside, and you’ll find the kind of genuine hospitality that’s getting harder to come by—a place where people still gather to swap stories over breakfast and where everything on the menu tastes just like home.
From Dream to Reality
Tami McGuire and her husband didn’t just open a restaurant—they brought a dream to life. “We purchased the diner in February 2018,” Tami recalls. “It was something my husband had always wanted. When the opportunity came up, we knew it was the right time.” Their vision wasn’t just about serving food—it was about sharing the fruits of their farm and creating a place where community could thrive. Built on a foundation of hard work, faith, and local pride, Mixin’s and Fixin’s represents more than a business—it’s a piece of their heart, shared with every guest who walks through the door.
Farm-Fresh Food, Made from Scratch
At Mixin’s and Fixin’s, everything starts with quality ingredients—many of which come straight from the McGuires’ own farm. Their beef and pork are raised just down the road, and their eggs and honey are provided by local partner Rick Smith, whose laying hens and bees help bring that extra touch of authenticity to every meal. The kitchen churns out comfort food favorites like handmade noodles, fresh-baked breads, and scratch-made desserts, each one prepared the old-fashioned way—slow, thoughtful, and made with care.

Customer favorites include the Trucker’s Special—a mountain of home fries, biscuits, eggs, and sausage gravy—and hearty dishes like meatloaf, lasagna, and juicy cheeseburgers made with freshly ground beef. Every Friday, diners line up for the all-you-can-eat perch and cod, a tradition that draws loyal fans from all over the area. And when the seasons change, so does the menu. You’ll find hot soups and stews warming the table in winter, and light salads, sandwiches, and ice cream treats making an appearance in the warmer months.

The Team Behind the Taste
The McGuires have built a team that feels more like family. At the center of it all is Chef Justin, who’s been an essential part of the diner for over three years. “Justin is the heartbeat of our kitchen,” Tami says proudly. “He’s here six days a week, running the grill, prepping our dishes, and making sure everything is just right.” His dedication shows in every bite. On the front end, Molly and Courtney help create the diner’s inviting atmosphere with their friendly smiles and genuine service. They know the regulars’ orders by heart and always take time to chat with new guests. It’s the kind of personal touch that turns a quick bite into a memorable experience.
More Than a Meal—A Place to Belong
Mixin’s and Fixin’s is more than a diner—it’s a community hub. It’s where neighbors catch up over coffee, families gather after ball games, and old friends reconnect over breakfast. “We’ve raised our son here,” Tami says, “and now we’re watching our grandsons grow up in the same town. This place has always been home to us, and we want it to feel like home to everyone who visits.” It’s not uncommon to see three generations sharing a booth, or farmers and teachers chatting over lunch. That sense of connection and belonging is woven into the very fabric of the place, making it a special part of the Mechanicsburg community.

Giving Back and Growing Forward
Supporting the community has always been a cornerstone of the McGuires’ mission. The diner regularly contributes to local causes, including the VFW Post, 4-H youth programs, school fundraisers, and benefit events for families in need. One Friday a month, they host a local band during lunch, turning the dining room into a cheerful gathering place filled with live music and laughter.

Looking ahead, Tami and her team are excited about what’s to come. A customer loyalty program is in development to reward regulars, and plans are underway for a refreshed menu with more kid-friendly options and take-home meals designed for busy families. They also hope to launch online ordering and a mobile app, making it easier than ever to enjoy their homemade meals on the go.

“We understand how busy life can get,” Tami says. “We want to give people the option to bring home something real, something nourishing—without the hassle. A meal that tastes like it came from your own kitchen.”
